What follows are the questions that come up most often, written directly.
If your question isn't here, the Request Appointment page is the right next step.
Kathie practices from the wellness model, supporting you to navigate life's complexities and live more intentionally. By not partnering with insurance companies, she avoids the medical model and ensures your care is guided entirely by your personal goals. This approach protects your privacy from any clinically unnecessary medical diagnoses and keeps external corporations from dictating your care by restricting your session lengths or total number of visits. If your plan covers out-of-network care, KHKN Group can provide a monthly superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
Many clients do. Therapy from a licensed clinician is generally HSA and FSA eligible. Speak with your tax advisor for specifics. I can provide superbills if useful, though note that a superbill includes a diagnosis code. If you want full structural privacy, pay directly and skip the superbill.
High-level breakthroughs require deep focus, not an arbitrary 50-minute timer. Pioneered by psychiatric legend Dr. Milton H. Erickson and psychobiologist Dr. Ernest Rossi, our extended sessions optimize your ultradian rhythms—the natural 90-to-120-minute cognitive cycles that govern peak performance and recovery. Every couple of hours, your analytical brain naturally downshifts, temporarily lowering stress-induced defenses and opening an optimal "window" for strategic insights and deep psychological rewiring. By aligning our work with your biology, we bypass mental fatigue, accelerate growth, and maximize the ROI on your time without ever rushing the process.
Biweekly is the recommended minimum. Some clients work weekly during acute periods. Others work monthly for maintenance. The cadence is determined collaboratively and adjusts to the work, not an arbitrary rule.
Most clients work with Kathie for six to eighteen months. The clinical work has a shape and an endpoint — this is not lifelong therapy. The goal, consistent with the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, is your empowerment and autonomy, not ongoing dependence. For a more brief solution, The Intensive offers a self-contained, two-day engagement for deep work. Some clients choose The Intensive, get everything they need from it, and never become ongoing clients, which is exactly the right use of that tier of service.
Yes. The primary modality is individual work with the family system as the clinical focus. Couples and family sessions are integrated when clinically indicated. The Intensive is particularly well-suited to couples and family work as well.
Absolutely. The foundational privacy structure of KHKN Group exists specifically because Kathie understands the high professional stakes her clients face. As a former Supervisory Federal Law Enforcement Officer, Kathie knows exactly how an exposed mental health record can jeopardize a background investigation, a security clearance renewal, or a fitness-for-duty evaluation. KHKN Group provides elite, ultra-discreet care tailored for: Law Enforcement & Intel, Corporate Leadership, Licensed Professionals, High-Profile Individuals, and their loved ones. Your privacy is not just a policy here; it is the core architecture of how Kathie operates. At KHKN Group, we keep it tight.
These words get used interchangeably. They are not the same.
Coach: helps you set goals and build forward strategies. No license required. No diagnosis, no treatment of mental health conditions.
Counselor: helps with specific life challenges through guidance and coping tools, often shorter-term and goal-directed. Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) hold a formal credential.
Therapist: a broad term for anyone who provides talk-based mental health treatment. It does not signal a specific license on its own.
Clinician: the most formal of the four. A licensed professional who assesses, diagnoses, and treats. The emphasis is clinical depth, not just conversation or encouragement.
Kathie holds formal licenses in two states within the USA. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and a Clinical Professional Counselor licensed in Nevada. The work she does reaches the patterns underneath, not just the coping tools on top.
Kathie offers an Introductory Call. It is not a free consultation. To be clear, the Introductory Call is not simply an administrative step. There is clinical intention behind the conversation. Specifically, Kathie is listening for what brings you to the conversation, why now, and whether KHKN Group is the right fit for your needs. Additionally, Kathie will answer any questions you may have. If there is mutual agreement that KHKN Group is a good fit for you, Kathie will schedule the first appointment to begin the substantive work.
